Sourcing & Biosecurity

Our New Zealand Driftwood

Every piece of driftwood we offer has been naturally shaped by New Zealand's rivers, lakes, and coastline before being carefully selected for its unique character. No two pieces are ever the same, making each item a truly individual addition to your home, aquarium, terrarium, vivarium, or creative project.

Carefully Imported to the UK

Our driftwood is imported directly from New Zealand through approved commercial channels. Before export, each shipment undergoes treatment in accordance with the MPI VCE1 treatment protocol and is accompanied by the relevant import and treatment documentation. This process helps satisfy the applicable biosecurity and plant-health requirements for international trade. We retain the supporting documentation for every shipment, including treatment details, and can provide further information on request.

Naturally Unique

Driftwood is a natural product and each piece has its own distinctive appearance. Variations in: shape, size, colour, grain, texture, knots, cracks, weathering, natural hollows and markings are all part of the wood's natural character and should be expected. These features are not defects but make every piece completely unique. You will receive the exact piece shown in the product photographs unless otherwise stated.

Cleaning & Preparation

All driftwood is inspected, cleaned, and thoroughly dried before dispatch. As with any natural material, small traces of sand or other naturally occurring debris may occasionally remain. If you intend to use driftwood in an aquarium, terrarium, or vivarium, we strongly recommend carrying out any research and preparation appropriate for your specific setup before introducing it. Natural driftwood may release tannins, which can temporarily tint aquarium water. This is a normal characteristic of many hardwoods and is harmless in many aquascaping applications, although individual aquarium requirements may vary.

While every effort is made to supply clean, high-quality natural driftwood, The Driftwood Den cannot accept responsibility for any damage, loss, injury, or issues arising from the use, preparation, or placement of our products. It is the customer's responsibility to ensure the driftwood is suitable for their intended application and to prepare it appropriately before use.

Our Commitment

We believe our customers should know exactly where their driftwood comes from and how it has been handled before it reaches them. That's why we're committed to transparency throughout our sourcing and import process. If you have any questions about the origin, treatment, or documentation relating to our driftwood, we're always happy to help.
