All of our driftwood is responsibly sourced and imported directly from the beaches of New Zealand. Each piece has been naturally shaped by the ocean over many years, making every item completely unique in character, texture, and form.
Before leaving New Zealand, all driftwood is professionally fumigated to ensure it is free from insects and pests. Aside from this essential treatment, the wood is left exactly as nature created it, naturally weathered, textured, and beautifully organic.
One of the best things about our driftwood is how low maintenance it is. It can be used both indoors and outdoors without needing any treatment. If the wood gets wet, simply allow it to dry naturally and it will return to its original colour and texture. For indoor use, no additional treatment or preservation is required.
Yes, absolutely. If you would like to enhance or slightly deepen the colour of the driftwood, you can apply a wood varnish or sealant. However, this is entirely optional and not necessary for preserving the wood or maintaining its natural appearance.
We price our driftwood by weight, as this has proven to be the fairest and most consistent method. Some pieces are surprisingly lightweight, while others are incredibly dense and heavy due to the hardwood species and natural ageing process.
Because the wood has naturally washed ashore after years in the ocean, it is often very difficult to identify the exact species. However, we believe much of our stock consists of Ironwood and other extremely dense hardwood varieties, which contribute to its durability and distinctive appearance.
New Zealand driftwood is exceptionally strong and durable (arguably some of the hardest driftwood available in the world!) When cut, the wood often appears almost petrified due to its density and hardness. This makes it ideal for furniture making, structural features, artistic projects, and statement interior pieces.
As we cannot guarantee the exact species of wood, we are unable to confirm whether it is completely safe for aquatic or reptile environments. If you plan to use the driftwood in a fish tank, aquarium, or vivarium, we strongly recommend researching appropriate preparation and treatment methods beforehand to ensure it is suitable for your specific setup.
